Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca Full Day Tour, Vinicunca, the Mountain of 7 Colors, or Rainbow Mountain, is located in the Southern Region of Cusco. This gratifies even the most demanding travellers and trekkers, endowing unforgettable memories of the raw sites of and around it.

Sumptuous panoramas of high mountains, formidable glaciers, crystalline rivers, calm lakes, harmonious pastoral scenes of grazing alpaca kept by Andean natives and the humble families of the region. This new route is genuinely unique and is a real adventure through a preserved wild natural terrain including Puka Punta, “red lead”, a mountain in the Willkanuta mountain range and small communities of Quechua-speaking descendants.

The route reaches great heights between 4710m and 5200m for stunning eagle eye views. Explore this route and it is likely that you will have this extension to the south all to yourself, encountering few or no other route hikers. This one-day tour is able to offer travellers an alternative trail that is paramount to other trips and destinations.

Rainbow Mountain full day hike
We will pick you up between 04:00 hrs. – 04:30 hrs. Then we are going to set out on a drive through the South Valley. The drive takes around 3 hours to get Hanchipacha community where we are going to stop for breakfast. After that we are going to drive you 15 minutes more to Quesiuno community (4,326 m / 14,189 ft.), where we are going to start with the trekking of 3 hours approx. long to the rainbow mountain (most of the way is going up). In the way up we are going to be able to enjoy amazing landscapes of herds of alpacas and llamas, the Ausangate Mountain, many red mountains and traditional local houses. When we finally reach our golal the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft.), you will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depend of your trekking speed and weather conditions).

After the amazing view of the landscapes on the top we are going to down to the beginning of our trekking point, that take 2 hours approx. (Quesiuno community) where we are going to take our transportation to Hanchipacha community to have lunch. Then you are going to be drive to Cusco, and drop you at Regosijos square.

What is Rainbow Mountain and where is it located?
Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca is located in Peru, in the Cusco region, province of Canchis in the village of Pitumarka.

This mountain is a natural formation that shows the whim of nature through kilometers of land that are changing their coloring by the richness in minerals and it is from the viewpoint of Vinicunca, from where you will have a spectacular view of the entire Cordillera of the Andes with its whimsical colors that resemble the Rainbow.
How much height you have?
The point of maximum height is 5200 meters above sea level; however the tour part of the city of Cusco, passing through towns like Checacupe and Pitumarka until you get to the start point of the walk called Pampachiri to 3800 meters above sea level, from where we will ascend to the observation deck at a height of 5200 meters above sea level.
What do distance and travel time from Cusco?
The Mountain Rainbow is located 138 km from the city of Cusco and takes about 8 hours to get to this place between the trip by car and on foot without counting the stops to feed and rest.
Who can be done? Are there horses?
The degree of difficulty of this route is intermediate – easy, so it is recommended for people with an optimal physical state, as the advancement could be a little tiring for people who are not accustomed to these walks in height. However you can rent a horse in the same locality of Pampachiri with the Communards who offer this service just for people who cannot walk or not willing to walk for three hours.

You must bear in mind that the horse is guided by a horseman and will leave about 15 minutes from the viewpoint of Vinicunca so if you or if you will have to walk this stretch.
What months of the year and time are best for a visit?
The tour departs every day of the year, being the dry season the most recommended between the months of April to November however the rest of months even with the presence of rain and hail (sometimes) offers us a view that can only be seen with this climate that you can cope with a rain poncho and good trekking shoes.
